Showing users location in a set of web pages
Review methodology:
Overall purpose of the criteria
The purpose is to show the user the current pages location in the page structure of the domain. This could be done by indicating the current page in a menu of pages or with breadcrumbs showing the hierarchical position of the page in the structure of pages. The breadcrumbs shall correspond to the trail of pages the user passed from start page to current page. This is not always the case if there are several possible ways for the user to find a certain page in the structure.
When testing for compliance of this criterion, the following is used:
- Manual testing
- Visual inspection
Set of web pages applies to applies to;
- All pages in a web domain, or a sub-domain
If there are a set of web pages
- If the current location is indicated in navigation bars, menus or breadcrumbs, it’s a pass
- current location is not indicated in navigation bars, menus or breadcrumbs, it’s a fail.
- If breadcrumbs correspond to the trail of pages the user passed from start page to current page, it’s a pass.
- If breadcrumbs don’t correspond to the trail of pages the user passed from start page to current page, it’s a fail.
