Interactive elements to have similar behavior and patterns of activation for similar actions
Review methodology:
Overall purpose of the criteria
Digital services and web pages have a lot of interactive elements such as links, form elements, buttons etc. In a service all interactive element which have similar functionality shall function in the same way. The user shall not need to perform the similar actions in several different ways in the same digital service or web page.
When testing for compliance of this criterion, the following is used:
- Manual testing
- Visual inspection
- …
Interactive elements apply to;
- Links and groups of links such as menus, popup menus etc.
- Buttons
- Text boxes
- Drop down menus
- Select functionalities such as elements with checkboxes and radio buttons.
- Search functions
- Dialogue boxes
- Video controls
- Map controls
- Other controls that in some way let the user interact with the system
If there are interactive elements;
- If these elements have the same kind of behavior for similar actions, then it’s a pass.
- If these elements don’t have the same kind of behavior for similar actions, then it’s a fail.
- If these elements have the same kind of patterns of activation for similar actions, then it’s a pass.
- If these elements don’t have the same kind of patterns of activation for similar actions, then it’s a fail.
- If these elements are used for similar actions but use different behavior, it’s a fail.
