Clickable objects are consistent and clearly distinguishable as such
Review methodology:
Overall purpose of the criteria
All clickable objects shall be clearly distinguishable visually and consistent with other clickable objects of the same type and in the same context. Common design patterns for clickable objects shall be used such as borders, a different color*, icons or text properties like underline and Bold.
When testing for compliance of this criterion, the following is used:
- Manual testing
- Visual inspection
- Color contrast analyser tool

Clickable objects apply to;
- Links
- Buttons
- Menu items
- All kinds of form controls that are clickable
If there are clickable objects;
- If these objects in their context are indicated as clickable with a with a visual and programmatical determination such as border, color value*, an icon or a text property such as bold or underline it’s a pass.
- If these objects in their context are not indicated as clickable with a with a visual and programmatical determination such as border, color value*, an icon or a text property such as bold or underline it’s a fail.
- If the indication of these objects is consistent with other clickable objects of the same type and in the same context then it’s a pass.
- If the indication of these objects is not consistent with other clickable objects of the same type and in the same context then it’s a fail.
*Color value refers to the relative lightness or darkness of a color. Color cannot be the only indicator of information, but color value can as long as the requirements of contrast between background and foreground are met.
